A grant to establish Junior Red Cross clubs in Boyle, Casey and Mercer counties has been received by the Central Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The local chapter is one of 12 in the country to receive a grant from the national headquarters for youth activities, according to Ruthann Phillips. The clubs will be for youths in grades 6-8 and 9-12. A club will be formed for each age group in each of the three counties.
Casey County clubs will be formed within the school system. The clubs will be formed outside the school system in Boyle and Mercer counties to enable all youths to participate since there are multiple school districts and private schools in those counties, Phillips said in a press release.
The Mercer County clubs will meet at the YMCA in Harrodsburg, and the Boyle clubs will meet at the Red Cross office in Danville. Each club will meet monthly; the time and date will be determined by members.
