STANFORD - Two barn fires in Lincoln County kept local volunteers occupied Saturday as one threatened near-by woods and the other, a horse farm.
According to Lincoln County dispatchers, a barn on Pleasant Point School Road caught fire at approximately 11:40 a.m., followed by a barn fire at Arcadia Farm at 2:45 p.m.
Six county fire stations were dispatched to the fire at 315 Pleasant Point School Road, stations one through six. Reportedly, the blaze started in hay outside of the structure, moved to the side of the barn and later caught in a nearby field. It was contained before reaching a wooded area nearby.
"We saved the barn, there was minor damage," said station five volunteer Jerry Karriker. About 120 large round bails of hay were lost, said Karriker, but the fire was contained to one side of the structure. The Kentucky Department of Forestry was contacted for assistance to move bales of hay as the stations hosed them down to prevent the fire from spreading.
