LIBERTY - Two Casey County men who killed a total of five people in separate traffic crashes were formally sentenced to prison terms Monday.
Circuit Judge James G. Weddle, accepting jury recommendations, sentenced Leon Scott, 41, of Creston, to 50 years for the deaths of three elderly people in a head-on crash on U.S. 127.
Scott received 10 years for each of the three people who died, plus 20 years for assault for the person who survived. Scott, who was also found to be mentally ill, was convicted Feb. 21 on three counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of first-degree assault.
Killed were Mary Reynolds of Stanford; her husband, Raymond Reynolds; and Robert Miller. Severely injured was Mary Reynolds' sister, Elizabeth Thompson of Ohio.
