My mother has always been one of the hardest working people I know; anyone who knows her will agree with me. She rarely takes a moment of relax even though she has to live daily with the stress and depression that goes along with diabetes. Her life is controlled by diabetes, from the type and amount of food that she eats to the emotions that she feels. She has to take two shots a day and she will have to continue to do so for the rest of her life.
My mother has never been overweight; she weighs about 115 pounds. The only time she has ever weighed more was when she was pregnant. Diabetes once made her so sick that she weighed 80 pounds and was in the ICU for a week. I was just a child then, and there is no feeling worse than the fear that you are going to lose you parent forever. Seeing her suffer like that was horrible. Thankfully, she survived, and continued to be as lively and hard-working as ever.
