Assistance after bus accident near Crab Orchard appreciated

March 28, 2004

Dear Editor:

I would like to commend some individuals in your community for the tremendous assistance they provided to our students and chaperones during a bus accident March 19.

Fifteen members of the James A. Cawood High School football team were traveling to Elizabethtown for the State Powerlifting Meet. Our school bus overturned onto its side on U.S. 150 when a portion of the roadway broke under the bus.

Not having the official names of the organizations, I want to commend the fire department and ambulance crews who responded to provide assistance. I appreciate the dedication of the Kentucky State Police personnel who were dispatched to the accident scene.

Most importantly, I want to express my deepest appreciation to the Rev. David and Donna Peters and the members of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church for their assistance. They took our students and chaperones into their church to keep them warm, let them call their parents and provided refreshments and fellowship until we could make alternate travel arrangements. Each one of those traveling with our group will always remember the assistance provided by the Peters and members of their congregation during this accident.

Again, I thank each person or organization who provided us with any assistance.
