What to order at the drive-thru

Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, Fruit 'n Yogurt Parfait with granola, orange juice. This is a perfect opportunity to sneak in a little fiber and three servings of fruits and vegetables.

Burger King

Chicken Whopper with reduced-fat mayo, seltzer. You'll get the burger-meal experience without all the fat.


Mandarin Chicken Salad (skip the noodles and ask for two packets of almonds instead - they have good omega-3 fats and protein), soft breadsticks, bottled water or seltzer.

Taco Bell

One chicken, bean or steak burrito; one chicken, bean or steak taco; pinto beans with cheese; orange juice. This combination will give you a good variety of nutrients and flavors.



Turkey with plain or Dijon mustard on a wheat roll with tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers; water; oatmeal-raisin cookie.


Thin-crust pizza, side salad if available, unsweetened iced tea or diet soda. A thin crust means fewer calories and fewer fast-metabolizing, refined carbohydrates.

KFC and Popeye's

Chicken breast (remove the skin), greens, corn on the cob or potato wedges, unsweetened iced tea or diet soda. If you are up for seconds, go for the vitamin-packed greens.


Soft-serve ice cream with a nut topping.
