I am so grateful to have a president who has signed into law the Unborn Victims of Violence Act! This bill recognizes, for federal crimes, that when a criminal attacks a woman and kills her unborn child, he has claimed two victims.
And who voted against this bill? That would be our democratic candidate for president, Sen. John Kerry. In his own words, "the law cannot simultaneously provide that a fetus is a human being and protect the right of the mother to choose to terminate her pregnancy. Therefore, I do not support the Unborn Victims of Violence Act." Here the senator is correct: It does seem absurd to recognize the humanity of the unborn in one case and not the other. That is why pro-abortion groups such as Planned Parenthood, the ACLU and NARAL have adamantly opposed this legislation and attempts were made to substitute a single victim proposal. This proposal would have said that a woman lost a "pregnancy" but a baby such as Connor Peterson, never existed. Explain this to the grieving moms and families who have lost their babies in these crimes. Tell them they didn't really lose a baby.
