True, Watts receive All-Star tryout berths

Lincoln County's Jonathan True and Mercer County's Courtney Watts have been invited to try out for the Kentucky All-Stars.

Tryouts to pick the team that will play Indiana on June 19 in Owensboro and June 26 in Indianapolis will be April 16-17 at Georgetown College.

True, a 6-10 center who is deciding whether to accept a scholarship offer from Morehead State or walk on at Kentucky, averaged 16.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.9 blocked shots per game last season. He also shot 56.5 percent from the field.

Area coaches picked True as The Advocate-Messenger Area Player of the Year.

Watts, a 5-5 guard, averaged 14 points and seven assists last season for the Scotties. She had over 1,400 points and 850 assists during her career and played on the 2003 12th Region championship team. She is considering Centre, Campbellsville, Lindsey Wilson and Missouri-St. Louis.


Watts was also recently named the 12th Region Player of the Year.

The only other 12th Region player invited to the Kentucky tryouts was Tyrone Green, who helped lead Wayne County to the regional championship.

Heading the list of boys invited to tryouts were Brock Whitney and Matt Maresca of state champion Warren Central, along with Chris Lofton and Jarrod Litzinger of runner-up Mason County.

Crystal Kelly of state champion Sacred Heart and Kentucky signee Sarah Elliott were among the girls invited to the tryouts.
