The Centre College softball team swept Rose-Hulman in a doubleheader Sunday, winning 3-2 and 10-2 at Terre Haute, Ind., to even its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record.

Holly Phillips went 6-for-7 with six RBIs, three of them on a fifth-inning home run that put Centre (12-10, 2-2 SCAC) in front to stay in the second game.

The Colonels, who lost two games to Rose-Hulman (12-12, 2-2) Saturday, held on to win the first game after Phillips went 3-for-3 and Marjorie Pilkinton went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

In the second game, which was stopped after six innings, Phillips was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs.

Erin Grumley was the winning pitcher in both games, pitching the first six innings of the first game and the last three innings of the nightcap. Cici Besl earned a save in the first game and started the second.

"It was just an outstanding job playing as a total team after the injuries we've suffered this year," said Centre coach Wendie Austin-Robinson, whose roster is down to 12 players.

All four teams in the SCAC Eastern Division are tied at 2-2 after the first of three weekends of play. Centre hosts DePauw next weekend.

The Centre College men's and women's tennis teams finished a run of three matches in three days Sunday with wins over St. Mary's (Minn.).

The Centre men (3-9) won 6-1 by taking five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. The singles wins included a comeback win by sixth-seeded Arion Smalley, who lost his first set but won the last two.

The Centre women (5-6) notched five singles wins in straight sets, then claimed the doubles point when Laura Walters and Rachel Coonce won the No. 3 match 8-6.
