RICHMOND - Garrard County's boys played a marathon match with two-time defending 9th Region champion Model, but came up short in a 6-3 loss Tuesday.
Play lasted for 5 1/2 hours Tuesday, and the No. 1 singles match between Model's Jeff Rutherford and Garrard's Phillip Arndt lasted 2 hours, 23 minutes by itself. Rutherford pulled out a 7-5, 6-0 win over Arndt.
Will Stevens of Garrard won in straight sets at No. 2 singles and Garrard's Corey Horn won 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Arndt and Stevens teamed up for the win at No. 3 doubles over Rutherford and Andrew Brubaker.
