April 08, 2004

Centre College first baseman Marjorie Pilkinton has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference softball player of the week for March 29-April 4.

Pilkinton, a junior from Shelbyville, was 6-for-10 at the plate, driving in eight runs with a double and three home runs as the Colonels (12-12, 2-2 SCAC) split a four-game series with Rose-Hulman.

Pilkinton is fourth in the league in hitting with a .393 average and fourth in RBIs with 21. She leads the SCAC in home runs (seven) and slugging percentage (.893) to go along with a .514 on-base percentage.

"Marjorie is having a fantastic year," Centre coach Wendie Austin-Robinson said. "She's been hurt all year, yet she's doing some amazing things at the plate. She is an inspiration to our players and a true leader."

Centre's men and women lost home matches to Georgetown on Wednesday.

The Centre women (5-7) came closest, losing 5-4 after dropping two of three doubles matches. Their three singles wins included a three-set victory by fifth-seeded Brittany Andriot.

The Centre men (3-10) lost 5-2, and their only win on the court came from the No. 2 doubles team of Hari Vasupuram and Arion Smalley. The Colonels won two matches by default.

Georgetown's winners included Liberty native Landon Williams at No. 3 singles.
