LEXINGTON - Boyle County scored five times in the late innings Wednesday but came up short in a 6-5 loss to Tates Creek.
The Lady Rebels trailed 3-0 before they got on the board with a three-run fifth inning. They scored twice more in the sixth after Tates Creek regained a 5-3 lead, but Tates Creek pushed the winning run across in the bottom of the sixth.
"We played a very good team and we played them very well," Boyle coach Heather Oates said. "We're improving daily, and that's all we can ask." Hannah Goggin had two of Boyle's four hits, while C.C. Leffew and Beth Brown had one each.
Boyle pitcher Mary Beth Pennington struck out five batters and walked four.
