A five-run explosion in the top of the sixth was more than enough to lift Lincoln County to a 6-1 win over host Rockcastle County Thursday at Mount Vernon.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when the Rockets scored their lone run. Lincoln (4-4), which had just five hits to that point, put together six hits (three for extra bases) and five runs in the top of the sixth.
Jana Crabtree led off with a single before Sara Fitzpatrick nailed a triple to start the rally.
"Our defense did a good job of keeping us in the game until we were able to get our bats going," Lincoln coach Pam Young said. "Sara really sparked us there, got us going."
Lincoln added a run in the top of the seventh.
Jessica Stringer and Samantha Stapleton each had a single and a double, while Marissa Rice, Jenny Jones and Jenny Ralston each had two singles.
