Danville Board of Education spent more than an hour Monday making special recognitions.
In one recognition ceremony, the board honored all teachers, assistants. mentors, volunteers, bus drivers and administrative staff involved in the district's award-winning Danville Kids University, which is sponsored by the Danville board, the district's Families First center and the local community education program.
DKU has been funded by a $169,000 federal grant and is in line for another $149,000.
Several months ago, DKU won the Civic Star Award from the Kentucky Association of School Administrators in conjunction with Sodhexho, a national school services company. The award is given annually to a new, innovative program in a Kentucky school district.
On hand for Monday's recognition ceremony was KASA executive director Wayne Young and two Sodhexo executives, Alex Agee II and David J. Seal.
