With one member calling it a "casualty" of the budget crisis in Frankfort, Danville Board of Education voted Monday night to delay applying for a state grant to help finance a long-scheduled renovation project at Danville High School.
The board had been planning to proceed with the third phase of a multi-million-dollar upgrade of facilities and landscaping work at the high school. This phase would involve a $3 million project to renovate the school's heating and air conditioning system.
The agenda for Monday night's meeting included a vote on Superintendent Bob Rowland's recommendation to apply for grant funds for the heating and air conditioning project. However, the board decided not to make an application because of the uncertainty of state funds due to the failure of the recently-adjourned 2004 General Assembly to adopt a budget.
"This is a casualty of the state budget situation," said board Vice Chairman Steve Becker. "This may delay that badly needed projects for months."
