The Presbyterian Church of Danville will host its second Godly Play National Teacher Accreditation Conference beginning Thursday.
The conference will continue until Saturday afternoon, and the 25 participants from five different states and several different denominations will be trained in the Montessori-based approach to religious education where children "learn the stories of our faith from the heart rather than by heart."
Leading the conference will be Lois Howard and Candy Moser, trainers who received their training and certification from Jerome Berryman, who founded Godly Play in the early 1980s. Howard is from Lexington and now serves Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Winchester as an ordained deacon and minister of Christian Formation. Moser is a Regional Godly Play Training Consultant for the Southeast and on Sundays is a storyteller at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, Fla. Both were trainers for the conference at The Presbyterian Church last year, where Howard served as its minister of Christian formation and established the program four years ago.
