In a recent letter, a writer groused that the chain restaurants she had "been promised" if the wet vote passed have never materialized.
There were no promises. There was speculation, theorizing and a lot of bull hockey on both sides.
Danville does not have the market conditions yet to entice higher-end restaurants. These companies look at data, not wish lists. They also look to see if the local population supports the higher-end or independent businesses that already exist. Every time someone goes out of town to eat or shop, he acts contrary to enticing higher-end business to Danville.
For the record, I enjoy wine with my meals, and I cook with wine. At the time of the vote, I was a resident of Danville. I read the state alcohol statutes. I predicted that a wet vote would cause losses for local caterers and independent businesses, and so could not support the measure.
