Seven members of the Danville-based 217th Quartermaster Detachment Water Purification Unit of the Kentucky National Guard are coming home after serving a one year tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The Guardsmen are scheduled to arrive at 7:40 p.m. today at Bluegrass Field in Lexington on a flight that will have originated in Seattle.
The other eight members of the unit are scheduled to return home in mid May. The unit was divided into two groups and assigned to two different commands but had the same general duties and supported the same Army division.
The 217th Quartermaster Detachment was mobilized in February. After receiving additional training at Ft. Lewis, Wash., and at Ft. Campbell, the two groups were deployed to Iraq and Kuwait where they primarily supported the Ft. Campbell-based 101st Airborne Division.
