Boyle, Mercer, Danville win

SOMERSET - Boyle County, Danville and Mercer County each won two games at the Lake Cumberland Classic this weekend.

Danville won on a forfeit and defeated Williamsburg 6-1; Mercer County beat Pulaski Southwestern 11-4 and Whitley County 16-10; and Boyle beat Mercer 8-2 and Whitley 9-6. Boyle was scheduled to play Southwestern Saturday evening.


Boyle County 9, Whitley County 6 - Jamie Robinson struck out 10 and walked only one in picking up the victory for Boyle.

Phillip Dean had three hits, including a double, and Matt Engle hit a two-run home run for the Rebels (14-8). Andrew West and Engle each had two hits.


Mercer County 11, Pulaski Southwestern 4 - Mercer County got a two-run home run from Blake Yeager in its victory.

Yeager's homer in the first inning started Mercer on its way.

Bottoms picked up the complete-game win, striking out four and giving up 10 hits.

Mercer County 16, Whitley County 10 - Whitley took a 6-0 lead after two innings, but Mercer scored six runs each in the third and sixth innings.

Mercer had 17 hits in the game.

Morgan picked up the win in relief of Kameron McRay.

Danville 6, Williamsburg 1 - Joey Beldon picked up the complete-game win, striking out eight and walking just one.

Williamsburg (14-5) had just five hits, while Danville (13-7) picked up 13.

Ryan Funkhouser had three singles, Deangleo Durham was 2-for-3 with a double and Jeremy Potts and Davis Teater each had two hits.


Boyle County 9, Mercer County 2 - A five-run seventh inning lifted Boyle from a 3-2 lead to the victory.

Tyler Morris hit a 3-run home run in that seventh inning for Boyle (13-8).

Evan Teague improved to 5-2 by striking out 12 and walking no Scotties (11-10).

Somerset 10, Danville 9, eight innings - Somerset scored six times in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat Danville in eight.

Five of Somerset's seventh-inning runs were unearned as Danville had four errors in the game.

Joey Beldon took the loss for Danville.
