Tuesday evening, I had the pleasure of sitting in on a presentation given by Premiere Play Scapes on recreational equipment for Danville's first proposed skatepark. How excited were the young faces in that room over the prospect of finally seeing the dream they have had for so long become a reality!
I have watched with pride and amazement over past months at the efforts these kids have put into making their wish come true. I have seen these young people go through the proper channels to attain this goal. I have seen them design and print T-shirts to raise funds, organize rallies, offer to assist in the physical effort of putting the park together and, last but not least, sit through more than three hours of city commission business to speak only briefly about their issue. This is difficult for most adults!
I believe these young people have shown great maturity and civic responsibility in their efforts to achieve their goal. Let us, as adults, prove to them now that respect is mutual and that handling oneself properly will be rewarded. It's time for these boys and girls to have their space.
