My sister, a friend and I participated in St. Mildred's Court residents' "Front Porch Tour" and had a great time! Even though the day was cold, chilly and damp, the welcome we received from all of the residents certainly "warmed the cockles of our hearts." I am originally from Rochester, N.Y. Many of the homes there have big porches, so this was rather nostalgic for me. The homemade lemonade, cookies, hot coffee, hot tea, iced tea and all the other goodies were an unexpected treat. But nothing can top the wonderful neighborly feeling all of the residents gave us. On our ride back to Lexington, we all talked about it being chilly but what a warm welcome they gave us and how impressed we were with how kind all the people were to us.
It's nice to know there are still quaint neighborhoods thriving right here in the good ol' U.S.A. I am trying to get my other sister, who still lives up north, to move closer. If I can get her to visit Danville, I think my task will be much easier.
