Burgin, Garrard split baseball doubleheader

HARRODSBURG - Burgin scored two runs to win the first game of a doubleheader with Garrard County Wednesday, but Garrard answered with a two-inning assault in the second game to gain a split.

Burgin won the first game 5-4 after rallying from a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth inning and two in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Garrard built on its early 1-0 lead with six runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth en route to a 12-5 victory.

Daniel Howard earned Burgin's win, pitching all seven innings and allowing six hits and two walks.

Evan Mobley had two hits, while Zack Gross, Seth Trayner and Joe Harris had one each.

The Bulldogs outhit Garrard 11-9 in the second game, getting four hits from Josh Carey and three hits each from Trayner and Gross. Sean Bottoms added a double.


Carey took the loss, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in two innings. Bottoms gave up six runs on two hits and four walks in 11/3 innings, and Jordan Darland allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks in 2 2/3 innings.
