BRYANTSVILLE - The two people killed Tuesday in a single-car crash on U.S. 27 near Bryantsville were identified as Danville residents Alejandro Armenta, 22, and Shantal Mendosa, 20.
Armenta was driving north when his 1994 Saturn slipped off the side of road, the Garrard County Sheriff's Department said. Armenta overcorrected, and the car crossed the southbound lanes, went off the road and slammed into a tree.
Armenta and Mendosa, who were married, were pronounced dead at the scene by Garrard Deputy Coroner Clyde Merida. Their bodies were sent to the medical examiner in Frankfort for autopsy.
The accident, which occurred about 6 p.m., closed the highway for four hours while officials investigated and removed the car and bodies. Traffic was diverted through Ky. 152 and Ky. 753.
