Yard sale, barbecue and fish fry

Casey graduation is tonight

LIBERTY - Casey County High School graduation is 7 p.m. today in the high school gymnasium. Principal Tim Goodlett will present diplomas.

Casey school calendar approved

LIBERTY - Students in the Casey County schools will return to classes Aug. 5, according to the 2004-2005 school lenda approved last week by the Casey County Board of Education.


Breaks are scheduled in the spring and fall and during the Christmas holidays. Classes will end May 16, 2005.

Opening day will be Aug. 4 when teachers will return one day before students arrive.

Students will get two breaks in September with the Labor Day holiday Sept. 6, and the annual apple festival Sept. 24.

Other days students will get a break are: Oct. 4-8, fall break; Nov. 2, election day; Nov. 25-26, Thanksgiving holidays;

Dec. 20-31, Christmas holidays; Jan. 17, Martin Luther King's birthday; Feb. 21, President's Day; March 18, inservice training; and April 4-8, spring break.

Students will finish classes May 16, and teachers on May 17.

Two Casey schools to have a nurse

LIBERTY - Two Casey County schools will have nurses during the next fiscal year.

The county Board of Education agreed last week to approve an agreement with Lake Cumberland District Health Department, in the amount of $10,000 for the 2004-2005 school year for two school nurses at Liberty and Middleburg elementary schools.

In other personnel matters, the board approved allocation of additional custodial hours at all the county schools during the summer break.

The high school will get 289 hours; Liberty Elementary and the middle school will get 140 hours; Middleburg Elementary will get 105 hours, and Douglas, Garrett, Phillips and Phelps schools will get 70 hours.

Superintendent Linda Hatter also hired the following personnel:

High school Algebra I student tutors: Brian Buis, Michelle Clark, Jamin Cundiff, Amy Goodlett, Mindy Goodlett, Ashley Murphy, Drema Murphy, Meagan Murphy, Kelli Warner and McKinzee Weddle.

Resignations for Don Cravens and Laura Elaine Richardson were approved.

Hatter also announced that Anita Wethington has submitted notification that she intends to return to work in the position of teacher at the middle school during the coming year.

A medical leave of absence was granted to Tammy Wilson, a teacher at Liberty Elementary.

Danville city hall offices closing for training

Danville business licenses, payroll tax and net profits offices in city hall will be closed May 24 -28 while the staff is in training.

The offices will reopen June 1.


Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation - 8:30 a.m. Monday to review bids for the amphitheater.
