DECATUR, Ill. - Centre College freshman Eileen Schilling will compete Thursday in the 10,000-meter run at the Division III National Outdoor Championships at Millikin University.
Schilling qualified with a time of 37 minutes, 41 seconds and is ranked 15th in the nation. However, Centre coach Lisa Owens said she's capable of a much better placement.
"She's just such a competitor," Owens said. "She'll have to do better than that time to be an All-American. I'd say she'd have to run in the low 37s or right under, and I think she's capable of that."
The top eight finishers earn All-American status.
Schilling earned All-American honors in cross country in the fall when she finished 35th.
"She's got that competitive nature about her, that drive and desire that makes her want to be the best she can be and accomplish some big things," Owens said.
