HARRODSBURG - Michael Bottoms struck out seven of the first 10 batters he faced and hit a two-run home run for Mercer County in a 10-0, five-inning win over Harrodsburg in the first round of the 46th District Tournament here Tuesday.
Bottoms gave up just one hit, a single to Tim Lester in the fourth inning, in his five innings of work. He struck out nine, including striking out the side in the second and third, and walked only two.
Mercer led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Scotties exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning. Bottoms' two-run home run helped Mercer stretch out its lead, and John Wickliffe ended it with a bases-loaded, two-out single to score the final two runs.
Bottoms and Wickliffe each had two hits for Mercer.
Harrodsburg didn't help itself in the field, committing seven errors.
