CRESTON - A dedication Saturday at Cold Springs Baptist Church Cemetery will be held in memory of 39 people who served their country in the military and are buried there.

A monument will be unveiled, a 30-foot flag pole with a flag that flew over the White House July 14, and a plaque with 39 names of servicemen will be part of the service that begins at 2 p.m. in the cemetery on Ky. 70 West, seven miles west of Liberty.

The program will include the dedication, singing of the National Anthem, reading the roll call of the 39 servicemen and presenting their families small flags that can be placed at the headstones of the deceased veterans, a 21-gun salute, taps and laying of wreath.

Gerald Vannoy, of Nicholasville, a 30-year Army veteran, said the memorial is in honor of the late Wiley and Elizabeth Vannoy, who traveled by covered wagon from North Carolina to Creston. They brought their three children, Wayne, Nora and Pearl, on the 10-day trip. Other family members came later.
