JUNCTION CITY - Ponderosa Speedway will host the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Friday night with the running of the fifth annual Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial Race.
Rowland was in the racing parts business and helped many drivers with parts, supplies, tires, fuel, race cars or whatever they needed to get started or to the next race. Friday's race honors him for his years of contributions to the sport of racing.
Previous Rowland Memorial winners at Ponderosa include Dustin Neat, Jay Mobley, Don O'Neal and last year's winner, Mike Marlar, the 2003 O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series champion.
It will be the eighth point's race of the 2004 season. Greg Johnson currently holds the top spot in the points, followed by Aaron Hatton, Tyrel Todd, Johnny Wheeler, Brad Neat, Doug Smith, Steve Cornelius, Spensor Watson, Dennis Selby and Joey Kramer. Hatton, Todd and Wheeler are bidding to become the first three drivers to finish in the top 10 of the points each year since the series started in 2002.
