I, along with a group of senior citizens, attended a meeting Tuesday at Danville City Hall with the mayor and commissioners. Some of the funds for the seniors at the Gathering Place had been considered for possible cuts. In protest, we were there begging for reconsideration. To our surprise, the vote on not cutting our funds was in our favor.
We are deeply grateful and deeply appreciate this change of heart. We especially want to thank Mayor Bowling and commissioners Chester Kavanaugh and Ryan Owens.
For many seniors, this is all of the pleasure they get, and they really enjoy it. Many were born and raised in this town, as were generations before and after them. Some may have left in their younger years for better-paying jobs. Because of the love they had for this town, they returned as senior citizens. They were thrilled to have the wonderful place to gather and talk about their younger years. They enjoy it so much that to cut back on their funds for the short time we have left is like a death sentence for many.
