Nancy Pelosi should be applauded for having the courage to stand up and publicly speak out in straight talk about the incompetence of George W. Bush and his administration. The blind obeisance of Republicans to this shallow president is hurting this country and leading us down a very dangerous path.
The Republican Party has attacked anyone who speaks out against mistakes and miscalculations made by this president and his administration, saying that criticizing a president during wartime is unpatriotic, but that is not true. In 1918, Theodore Roosevelt said, “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
The stifling of dissent today by our leaders is not the sign of a free country, and if we continue to allow ourselves be cowed and intimidated into silence, we won’t be a free country much longer.
