Man dies in Casey crash

LIBERTY - A single-vehicle accident and subsequent fire left one man dead in Casey County on Friday, his body burnt beyond recognition, Kentucky State Police said.

The car and driver were traveling north on Ky 501 at 3 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to police. The vehicle burst into flames upon impact, said police.

The initial report does not mention alcohol or intoxicants being suspected of contributing to the accident. An autopsy was performed Saturday in Frankfort, police said, in the hopes the man's identity can be confirmed. No further information on the accident was immediately available, pending autopsy results.

Trooper Michael Woodrum is the investigating officer.
