HARRODSBURG - A section of this city's garbage ordinance requiring insurance and permits to be purchased by garbage collection companies has been eliminated.
Eddie Burton was at today's special meeting of the Harrodsburg City Commission held to give second reading to the amended garbage ordinance. He asked if the section only applied to his business, H&B Sanitation. His question came during the discussion of the ordinance and Commissioner Jack Springate told Burton it was his intention to ask that the entire section covering permits and inspections be eliminated from the ordinance.
Springate made the motion and it passed and the section is removed from the ordinance.
Ed Music, Harrodsburg's city administrative officer, said after the meeting that the original section of the ordinance was passed in 1995, but records indicate it was not aggressively enforced over the last nine years. He said the only other companies covered by that section of the ordinance are garbage collection companies doing business in the city and they are M&M Sanitation and BFI Waste Systems and compliance with the requirements has been uneven.
