Pikeville College: Marie Hargis of Danville and Lyndsay Madden received Lee B. Ledford Scholarships from the Appalachian College Association. They used the awards for new lab equipment to aid in independent research projects. Hargis, a biology major, studied the use of cellulose acetate electrophoresis to differentiate between white-footed mice (peromyscus leucopus) and deer mice (peromyscus maniculatus) in Eastern Kentucky. Madden, a biology and psychology major from Hazard, studied small mammal populations in Eastern Kentucky. Many other students will benefit from the lab equipment which will be used for classroom instruction and for future independent research projects.
