John L. Olds

MT. CARMEL, ILL. - John L. Olds, 89, of Mt. Carmel, died Friday in his home.

Formerly of Stanford and Hustonville, he was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Angeles, Texas, to E.O. and Lillian Gaither Olds. He was the widower of Marcella Warnock and the husband of Rose Mary Shepard Courter. He was a WWII shipyard worker, a dairy farmer and involved in the oil business. He was an ordained deacon and elder of Wabash Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by seven children, Mary-Nance Miller of Charleston, Ill., Johnni Olds of San Francisco, Lynne Reid of Westerville, Ohio, Kathy Wellerman of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Rick Olds of West Linn, Ore., Shawn Courter of Austin, Texas, and Kevin Courter of Lemont, Ill.; one sister, Mary Olds of Casper, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Olds; and a daughter, Marcelee Olds.


Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wabash Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Orio Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Short Funeral Home.

Memorials may go to Good Samaritan Lincoln Trail Hospice or Marion Medical Mission.

Jesse Lanham

LIBERTY - Jesse Searl Lanham, 91, of Middleburg, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 15, 1912, in Liberty, he was the son of the late John and Mary E. Martin Lanham. He was the husband of Minnie Edith King Lanham. He was a farmer, a former employee of the Middleburg Gas Station and a former janitor at Middleburg Elementary. He was a member of Middleburg Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include two sons, Jesse D. Lanham of Morgantown, Ind., and Paul D. Lanham of Middleburg; one sister, Christine Tomes of LaGrange; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Middleburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis Brock. Burial will be in Lanhamtown Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday at the church.

Bartle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd E. Bedwell

LIBERTY - Lloyd Eugene Bedwell, 55, of Taylor Street, Liberty, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 19, 1949, in Adair County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Allie Hatfield Bedwell. He worked in farm gate manufacturing and saw mills. He was an army veteran.

He is survived by his fiancee, Judy Wheeler of Liberty; three step children, Evelyn Burton, Timmy Elliott, both of Liberty, and Chris Terry of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Ruby Wethington of Columbia; a brother, Carl Bedwell of Elizabethtown, Ind.; and two step grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Edward Brown and Edward Parton. Burial will be in Old Antioch Cemetery.

Visitation is after 8 a.m. Sunday.

Shirley C. Hilbert

PERRYVILLE - Shirley Curtis Hilbert, 56, of Scrubgrass Road, Mitchellsburg, died Saturday at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Nov. 18, 1947, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Merit and Loveta Lamb Curtis. She was a homemaker and the widow of the late William Hilbert. She was a member of Mitchellsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra "Sweet Pea" Meza of El Paso, Texas; three sisters, Darlene Schondel of Waynesville, Ohio; Rita Irvin and Denise Davis, both of Junction City; two brothers, Jackie Curtis of Lexington, and Roger Curtis of Seattle, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Wilder Funeral Home with Gary Story officiating.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Monday.

Clyde Tharp

HARRODSBURG - Clyde Tharp, 62, of Louisville Road, Harrodsburg, died Saturday at his residence.

He was the husband of Judy Tharp.
