On June 21, my 16-year-old daughter, Lauren Maryon, was involved in a violent car accident. The collision resulted in severe trauma to her brain and left her fighting for her life at the University of Kentucky hospital. In a split second, her world and the lives of her family changed.
I moved to Danville in 1996. I quickly discovered the appeal and small-town values of the citizens of this great town. However, I was not prepared for the outpouring of genuine love and support for my daughter and our family. I'm not sure how I can possibly thank all of the incredibly considerate people who called the hospital with their prayers and well-wishes and who flooded the hospital waiting rooms, patiently waiting for updates on Lauren's progress.
Lauren is now in stable condition, though still comatose. She has a long road of rehabilitation ahead but we are confident that her strong positive spirit, coupled with the immense love and support of her family and friends, will insure a full recovery.
