LAWRENCEBURG - The Danville-Boyle County 9- and 10-year-old all-stars never trailed Gardenside American, but they made it interesting in the sixth inning Sunday at the district Little League tournament.
Gardenside American rallied to within 9-8 in the sixth inning before Danville-Boyle shut Gardenside down to remain undefeated (3-0).
Danville-Boyle took a five-run lead in the first inning. Lucas Edelen, Blake Mason and Max Meckes had two hits each, while Jarrod Harringont, Hunter Sheegog, Logan Smith, Devin True, Casey Whittle and Clay Young had one apiece.
Dowell Harmon and Meckes combined for the win, striking out eight Gardenside players.
The team has qualified for the championship round, beginning this weekend, but is scheduled to play its final opening-round game tonight.
