LANCASTER - Garrard County pitcher Tiffany Meadors has signed a softball scholarship with Cumberland College.

She earned first-team honors on The Advocate-Messenger All-Area Team as a pitcher, going 16-10 for the Golden Lions this year with 154 strikeouts and a 1.87 earned run average.

Meadors said Cumberland contacted her late in the season, but the campus won her over.

"I just really liked the campus. They made me feel at home there. The coaches were really helpful," she said.

Meadors said she wanted to stay close to home, as she limited her final two choices to Cumberland and Campbellsville. In the end, Cumberland's academic specialties made her choice for her.

"I am going into physical therapy, and they have a really good program for that," Meadors said.

Garrard County reached the 12th Region semifinals last year, where the Lions lost to eventual champion South Laurel 3-1. Meadors struck out eight batters in her final high school game.

Meadors said when she gets to Cumberland, she just has one goal.

"I just want to keep improving," Meadors said. "Just improving my skills."
