LEXINGTON (AP) - A former middle school teacher already under indictment in Boyle County is now facing federal charges that he produced and possessed child pornography. He also faces a state charge of using a minor in a sexual performance.
Mark Starr, 33, was charged Monday in a complaint issued by U.S. Attorney Gregory Van Tatenhove's office. He was arrested by state and federal authorities in Water Valley, a small community in Graves County in western Kentucky, where he had recently moved after leaving Danville.
Last week, Starr pleaded not guilty in Boyle Circuit Court to felony charges of use of a minor less than 16 years old in a sexual performance and tampering with physical evidence. The indictment alleges Starr videotaped a student, with the girl's knowledge, in "a sexual performance" at the school. Authorities have declined to elaborate on the "sexual performance" other than to say it did not involve any physical contact.
