I am a proud, lifelong member of Hyattsville Baptist Church in Lancaster. On Wednesday, June 23 WLEX-TV reported a story during their evening news involving our pastor, my brother-in-Christ and close personal friend. As much as I hated to see the spin that was placed on this situation and the amount of time they spent flashing pictures of our church on the newscast, I was much more appalled at what I witnessed on Sunday, June 27 at our church during and after the morning service. We found a WLEX news reporting team in our church parking lot even before the service began, where they waited the entire service for its conclusion, just to try and "get the scoop" as our members exited the church.
Sunday is a holy day, a day where our church family meets together as the family of God to worship Him. We have done that every Sunday for the last 56 years, the lifespan of our church, and yet that Sunday was the only time I have ever seen a news team present during or after a service. As far as I am concerned, the only "story" present at our church on that Sunday was the great service we experienced as a church family through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. There was no other reason for the presence of a news team at our church, proven by the fact that there were no other news stations present.
