Area students participate in Governor's program

Two dozen area students are among the 1,000 juniors participating in the 2004 Governor's Scholar program.

GSP provides a five-week summer program for outstanding rising seniors in Kentucky. Established in 1983, the program provides a variety of co-curricular activities and the experiences of residential life. Students attend the program free of charge.

The scholars are in residence for the program, which is being held this year at Bellarmine University from June 20 to July 24, Eastern Kentucky University from June 26 to July 30, and Centre College from June 27 to July 31.

To be selected for the program, students are evaluated on the basis of academic records, test scores, teacher recommendations, extracurricular activities and essays at both a school district and state level.


Area students selected to participate this summer include:

Boyle County High School:Adam Dickinson, Ryan Dickinson, Jessica McQuerry and Alia Samhat.

Burgin High School: Ashton Inden and Jessica Allen.

Casey County High School: Patrick Helm, Heather Cundiff and Andrea Dykes.

Danville High School: Charlotte Crowley, Stephan Crown-Weber, Mauricus Lofton, Petra Rasmussen and David Stroup

Garrard County High School: Will Stevens.

Harrodsburg High School: Adam Jeffrey Gray.

Lexington Catholic High School: Virginia Deaton of Mercer County

Lincoln County High School: Sean Patrick Lear, Joanna Elizabeth Howerton, Brittany Michelle Camenisch and Cassie Marie Barnett.

Danville High Council to meet on principal selection

The Danville High School Council will meet at 6 p.m. today at the school for a special meeting. The council will go into closed session to continue the principal selection process.

The Kentucky State University Alumni Association will meet at 4 p.m. Saturday at West Lane Park, Harrodsburg.
