Boyle County Schools reached into the classroom to find a new principal for Boyle Middle School, selecting teacher Mike LaFavers Thursday to lead the school.
LaFavers, who is from Casey County and has taught in the Boyle system since 1995, was chosen by the school's Site-Based Decision Making Council from among seven finalists who were interviewed for the job. He replaces Frank LaBoone, who resigned after seven years to return to Fayette County.
LaFavers is out of town on vacation and could not be reached for comment today but said in a press release issued by the school system, "This is a terrific school with a veteran teaching staff and supportive parents. I feel honored to be leading such a fine group of people."
English teacher Cheryl Bryant, acting chairwoman of the council, said that LaFavers was chosen because he's a proven educator who is well-versed with the middle school's needs and has a strong background in curriculum and instruction.
