A Salvisa family that was apparently away on vacation lost their home to a fire Tuesday afternoon, said Chief William L. Currens of the Salvisa Fire Department.
Tom and Vickie Jude's one-story wood-frame house at 308 Garriott Lane suffered "severe" damage in the blaze, which was reported at 1:18 p.m., Currens said. The Judes were out of town and no one else was in the home, he said.
"The fire was in the attic with heavy smoke and soon after our arrival it came through the roof on us," Currens said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
About 30 firefighters from the Salvisa, Mercer Central and Terrapin fire departments battled the blaze. No one was injured, Currens said.
