The old and embarrassing fact about the absence of a supermarket in downtown Danville is related to the new and scandalous fact of the further expansion of building on Danville's bypass.
While buildings stand empty in the downtown, developers seem intent on covering as much of our green belt with as much asphalt as possible in as short a time as possible. Soon it will be necessary to rename "Sky Watch Drive" to something more fitting like "Development Drive" or "Parking Lot Drive."
I see that more land on the southern edge of our by-pass is up for sale. Certainly, I do not begrudge families and firms for wanting to make money at whatever cost to trees, nature and pastures - this seems to be the way of the world - but we should at least be honest enough to call the lunar landscapes we create in the process by their real, unattractive names. We are, after all, talking about the future of a town and not about the future of a commercial zone.
