STANFORD - It won't be long before two old farms between the U.S. 150 bypass and Goshen Road will be producing new crops - ones that involve balls, not bales.
At Tuesday's meeting of Lincoln County Fiscal Court, an engineer involved with designing the new First Southern Veterans Park said construction on the first phases of the community facility could begin soon. He predicted that, if work is done on schedule and weather does not play havoc with the project, the first activity at the park could be happening in a little more than a year.
"I'm hoping we can be playing soccer games there in the fall of 2005 and baseball in the spring of 2006," Doug Gooch of AGE engineering of Stanford, told the court. "We perhaps could even start using the park by next spring (2005) or so, but we want to make sure we have a good stand of grass and some other things in place."
