The deaf population now can enjoy seeing captioned, first-run movies at Danville Cinemas 8. The owners acquired equipment to provide open captioning for the deaf as soon as the movies open at the theater.
"We're trying to support the community that way," says Art Rivard, one of the theater owners.
Obtaining captioning used to take six to eight weeks on the first-run movies, adds Rivard.
The captioned movies will be shown during selected times and dates. The captioned movies now are being played during the second and third showings on Mondays in one theater, but Rivard says that might expand.
"Depending on the response of the deaf community, we can do it for more than one movie theater. They can let us know what they want."
