Boyle loses close match

Harrodsburg struggled to close out a win in its opener, but the Pioneers did what they had to do to top East Jessamine Tuesday at Harrodsburg.

The Pioneers (1-0) won 25-17, 26-24 after trailing 24-19 in the second set. Ishia Chenault served from that point to the victory.

"She had a lot of pressure on her shoulders and she came through for us," Harrodsburg coach Hallie Hammond said.

Hammond also credited Tiffany Smith with a block to keep the rally going.

Brooke Sheperson had four aces, and Mandy Long had two for the Pioneers.

Lexington Catholic 25-25, Boyle County 21-23 - At Danville, Boyle County's volleyball team opened its season with a tough loss, falling 25-21, 25-23 to Lexington Catholic.

Rebels coach Dana Stigall said she got especially strong play from four of her players. Rachel Staub had seven kills, Holly Carter had five kills, Bruna Lozano had three service aces and Stigall said Stephanie Slone did an "outstanding job on passing."


"We've scheduled some tough teams in our opening part of the season to hopefully make us stronger," Stigall said. "I was pleased with the play I saw tonight. Hopefully it will give us something to build on."

Boyle's next game is Thursday when the Rebels (0-1) host Woodford County.
