EMS fund-raiser

West Lincoln County EMS will hold a portrait fund-raiser Oct. 9 and 10. Participants receive an 8x10 photo for $10. Sales begin Sunday. For more information, call (606) 346-4520.

Bikers host benefit


Concerned Bikers of Kentucky is sponsoring its fifth annual HOPE Run to benefit Heritage Hospice at noon Aug. 28 at the Garrard County fairgrounds on U.S. 27 north of Lancaster. Registration is 10 a.m.-noon. First 100 will be given a T-shirt. For more information, call (859) 236-2425.

Purse workshop set

A workshop on making a purse will be held 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Boyle County extension office. Participants will make a "designer-looking" purse by using an already constructed denim or canvas tote 13- by 13-inches and sew on embellishments of various fabrics, beads and trims. Some sewing knowledge and skill are required. Bring: Sewing machine and sewing supplies including scissors, seam ripper, pins, "jean" needles, and a zipper foot. Instructor Mary Hixson will provide all other needed supplies. Send $25 registration fee before Sept. 2 deadline to Boyle County extension office, 446 North Danville Bypass, Danville, Ky. 40422. Danville City Commission - 5:30 p.m. Monday at city hall to discuss Skip Connell's public comments, Commissioner Chester Kavanaugh's comments, committee appointments, parking garage discussion, wireless contract, mowing contract, cemetery building, fire station, zone change, compensation plan for city employees, Haz Mat ordinance and alcohol ordinance.

Lancaster City Council - special meeting, 7 p.m. Monday. Agenda includes: Second reading of the tax ordinance; discussion of decorative containers to be put on the square, a joint venture of the city, county and merchants, which ideally will cut down on littering; and discussion of problems with the sewer extension on Danville Street.
