Yolantha Pace is one of several poets who have been asked to dedicate a poem to Maya Angelou, whose body of works include "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."
Pace described the request as a "double WOW."
Her plate has had a few wows on it lately. In July, she participated in The Harlem Book Fair. She was one of the authors selected to do an on-stage reading at that event, which attracted coverage from BET and C-SPAN.
Pace is a performance arts specialist who lives in Danville. She has published a book of poetry, "Winged-Plucked Butterfly." A poem in that collection, "The Worth of a Woman," is included in a collection of poems, "Poetry as Prayer: Appalachian Women Speak."
Tough time for ducks, deer in Casey
It was not a good day for ducks, nor deer, in Casey County.
Motorists have had trouble with a flock of ducks on Ky. 206 in Casey County numerous times. The ducks don't seem to want to stay off the road, and because of the numbers cut a large swath across the highway.
