Inspiration for visual art exhibits often comes from catchy phrases lifted from popular culture that are broad enough to encourage interest and participation among those who call themselves artists.
The biblical inspiration used for the current exhibit at Centenary Christian Life Center is popular enough that most who hear it have at least a vague idea of where it originated. Taken from Genesis 1:3, "Let there be light" is the first record of God's voice, speaking light into existence before the sun, moon and stars were even created.
"Let There Be Light" is a national juried art exhibition that showcases 38 original artworks from 11 states. Open to artistic interpretation, this inaugural exhibit includes many visual definitions of the word "light." From a literal interpretation of light and shadow as seen in the natural world as well as symbolic imagery taken from the Scriptures to even a light-hearted, whimsical perspective, these images were created both to inspire and remind the viewer of the power and presence of light.
