Harrison tops Garrard 38-8

LANCASTER - Garrard County had a new look Friday night, but it wasn't enough to lift the Lions past Harrison County in a 38-8 loss.

Junior Jared Prewitt started at quarterback for Garrard (0-2) after Spencer Crutchfield injured his hip in Garrard's opener, and coach Steve Stonebraker said he was impressed by Prewitt's play.

"I thought Jared had a very commendable effort for us," Stonebraker said. "I thought the kid played pretty good for his first-ever start at quarterback. He showed a lot of heart, showed a lot of character."

Prewitt finished 7-for-15 for 46 yards and threw two interceptions.

Crutchfield started the second half and completed five of 18 passes for 74 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to sophomore tight end Joey Day. He also ran the ball seven times for 86 yards.

"Spencer was moving around pretty well in the pregame and he lobbied to play at halftime," Stonebraker said.

Senior Chris Penix led Garrard on offense and defense, catching four passes for 52 yards and totaling a team-high 17 tackles (two for loss) at linebacker. He also caught the two-point conversion after Day's score.

"All around, Chris played his best game ever," Stonebraker said.

Dan Leavell also caught four passes for 44 yards.

Garrard trailed 24-0 at halftime.

Sophomore Cody Ives stepped in for Crutchfield at free safety and had 12 tackles and one pass breakup.

Stonebraker said the Lions have work to do as they continue to look for their first win.

"We've got some things we've just got to get straightened out, and a lot of things we've got to remedy," Stonebraker said. "Hopefully we can get that done next week and look to win our first game against Lincoln County."
